Check out your bike!

Before you hop on your bike, take a minute to inspect the essentials—your brakes, tires, and gears. A quick check can prevent accidents and make your ride smoother and safer.

Start with the brakes—squeeze the levers to ensure they engage properly and aren’t too loose or too tight. Listen for any squeaking, which could indicate worn-out brake pads.

Next, check your tires by giving them a firm press; they should feel firm but not rock-hard. Low tire pressure can make pedaling harder and increase the risk of flats, while overinflated tires can reduce grip on the road.

Finally, shift through your gears to make sure they’re working smoothly and not skipping or sticking. Properly functioning gears help with control, especially on hills or rough terrain.

A simple pre-ride check only takes a couple of minutes but can make a big difference in your safety and overall biking experience.
