Proper Mirror Position
Setting your mirrors properly is crucial to getting a complete 360-degree view of the activity around your vehicle. Identifying hazards as they develop allow you more time to respond to the situation and avoid a crash.
To properly position your mirrors, sit up in your normal position, and do the following:
-
Point your rearview mirror so that it is centered on the rear window.
-
For the driver side mirror, position the mirror so you can see just beyond the side of the vehicle. When you look in the mirror, you should not see the side of the vehicle. If you move your head slightly towards the driver side window, you will see your vehicle.
-
For the passenger side mirror, like the driver side mirror, position the mirror just past the side of the vehicle. When you look in the mirror, you should not see the side of the vehicle. If you move your head slightly towards the passenger side window, you will see your vehicle.
When your mirrors are positioned as described, you will be able to see everything in front of you, beside you, and behind you with little or no blind spots.
Remember to check your mirrors every 5 to 8 seconds to ensure you know what’s going on around you.
